We all have heard that a the parents are a child’s first teachers. If that is the case, then the home is the lab for the classroom of life. Your child’s experiences and lessons they learn in the home, instruct them as to how to live and function in the world. From you and ‘your classroom’ they learn love, respect for authority, how to deal with conflict and how to manage themselves. Within the walls of the home, they learn how to solve problems and how to treat their neighbor. They learn how to tell time by the schedule you set and how to speak and listen by watching you. Children will also learn that life isn’t perfect, doesn’t always go their way and that they will be ok when it doesn’t.
It’s an awesome and huge undertaking, to shape a little human being into a healthy, productive and clear thinking adult. If one stops to think about just how important the role of parent is, it could be overwhelming.
However, if you have ever taken on the task of doing any teaching from Sunday school to an enrichment class or taught your own child how to ride a bike or tie their shoes, you may recall that you have to stop and think carefully through the steps or brush up yourself on the subject matter, making yourself a bit of ‘an expert’, to know your material. That’s what it takes as a parent, an effort to try to be the best we can be to teach our children to be their best. Some days, we’ll be more prepared than other, some days we will be a little under the weather or stressed ourselves, but it’s our responsibility as parents to give it the best we have in our tank each day. It means being tough when we need to be be tough, apologizing when we make mistakes and being honest with our kids when we don’t have the answers, yet, vowing to them, that we will work to find help to get the answers.
Our kids will watch how we pray, view the world, treat our neighbors, spouse, parents, siblings and they will take the lead from us. What will they see? Wishing you a Great Day 🍎
