I don’t know about you, but when January first gets here, I feel ready to get back to my routine of working out most days and my usual eating habits, a morning smoothie, a healthy/hearty soup and salad for lunch and a nice balanced dinner. Sometimes deciding on a dry January and sometimes not. This hot beverage is not only tasty but it has many health benefits. A perfect little late night beverage as you engage in your before bed reading (there is no caffeine in this one). The drink comes from India, and has so many health benefits. Originally made with cow’s milk, I have seen it offered at health food stores and restaurants also made with, coconut milk, almond milk and oat milk. The main ingredient that goes into the heated milk is turmeric. Other spices in the blend are cinnamon, nutmeg and freshly ground black pepper. Almond butter gives the beverage a thicker and creamier taste. It is possible to purchase a mix, most readily available
in a health food store for anywhere from $14-$20. However, making your own mixture is possible with ingredients you most likely have on hand. You may already know the benefits of turmeric, but if not they range from helping reduce inflammation to aiding in digestion, to helping promote a good night’s sleep, to supporting joint health and Golden Milk is high in antioxidants. It could also be enjoyed in the morning or as an afternoon pick-me-up with a few friends at tea-time (around 3:30, think Tea Time) with a simple pound cake or your favorite baked indulgent. Any excuse to get together with a few cherished friends is truly a gift…It’s a Great Day 🌼
