“You are what you eat,  An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”  What we eat and drink has an affect on how we feel and look.  Years ago, healthy eating was lettuce and bland foods.  Now, many nutritionists use the phrase, “eat the rainbow,” referring to fruits and vegetables with vibrant colors, those high in antioxidants.  They are loaded with good nutrients that benefit the body in many ways from providing a boost to the immune system to  aiding in digestion.  If the body is healthy on the inside,  it usually shows on the outside in healthy hair, clear skin, bright eyes, high energy level, a healthy weight and positive disposition.  I often say, if you feel good you will look good. In my personal experience, the days my body feels as if it working properly and I get enough sleep I feel as if I look better than on the days when I don’t.  It’s not that I aspire to turn the clock back to age 25, I just want to look and feel good and able to be engaged in life doing the things I need to do to help and have fun with my Family & Friends...the cosmetic stuff, the hair color, the contacts,  trip to the aesthetician, the dentist for a great smile, all help out, however, it mostly boils down to “What you eat,” and exercise that are the true sources of the fountain of youth (sorry Ponce d’Leon).  Add in good sleep, a happy life and surround yourself with good people to be around...

Açaí Bowls are becoming more popular.  One a treat picked up at a health food store/deli or bowl bar, these are becoming  part of many healthy eating plans.  Sasha and Amanda makes these frequently and one morning as Sasha was dropping off the Lil’ Ladies, she brought both Stella and myself each an Açaí Bowl to enjoy for breakfast.  I could tell this was “not Stella’s first Rodeo,” when it came to Açaí bowls.  What a treat! Basically you use the frozen fruit you have on hand.  Add some FAV toppings of your choice like coconut, dark chocolate chips, chia seeds and you have another healthy option for a meal or snack.  Keep ingredients on hand in the kitchen/freezer so you can easily pull together something good for yourself or your people...

Gather your ingredients so preparation is easy.

 Basic Açaí Bowl Recipe

Ingredients

     -1/2 cup frozen blueberries

     -1/2 cup frozen raspberries

     -1 tablespoon açaí powder

         (An Açaí frozen packet or

          Frozen Dragonfruit packet

          Can be substituted if you

Are unable to find one or another)

    -1/2-3/4 cup vanilla almond milk

    -1/2 frozen banana sliced

-To add protein, add 1/2 cup plain Greek Yogurt

(Some Açaí bowl recipes add peanut butter as protein)

    -optional:  Chia seeds

-Garnishing toppings:  fresh fruits & unsweetened coconut

Method

  1. Blend all ingredients in a blender, start blender on low, stopping blender to stir occasionally with a spatula and turning back on.  When blending is complete, pour into a bowl and garnish with desired toppings.
  2. Get creative and add the fruits and toppings that sound good to you.   Granola is a topping option, I’m just not a fan of granola in an Acai Bowl.  Always use frozen fruits for the best consistency.  I think of an Açaí Bowl as a frozen fruit thick smoothie in a bowl.  Açaí berries are native to Brazil and come from a palm tree.  They are a fruit that is low In sugar and high in nutrients and fiber.
  3. Probably most of these ingredients you already have on hand.  Well, get your grocery  list going for the week, add the ingredients you need, schedule your workouts, get to bed on time and start feeling fabulous each and everyday...It’s up to you, you know....and...

It’s a Great Day ☀️
