This Friday is Valentine’s Day and you may be thinking about a special meal for your family or favorite Valentine. Many think, “Dinner Out.” While dinner out is a treat, you will pay more most likely, you may be offered a Prix Fix menu and you may have a wait. Again, when invited for dinner out, it’s all about. the company. Why not consider a delicious cozy dinner for two.

The nice thing about dinner in is that you get to select the meal and make the plans and you can do what ever you wish. When you have dinner at home, there’s no hurry. We had a lovely dinner in on Saturday, grilled tenderloin, a fresh vegetable healthy salad with a Dijon mustard dressing, Michigan Toast & Hot Fudge Sundaes. Nothing difficult, just something simple, something good.

When choosing a menu, consider one of your favorites to make. If preparing for a holiday or special occasion, I usually select something tried, true & simple made with good ingredients. Why? Because you want to turn down the stress level so YOU can enjoy your dinner. A dinner with your special person might be something like our dinner with an entree’ of tenderloin filets that we had on Saturday, fancy seafood like lobster or crab legs or lamb chops. For a family my suggestion would be a Boeuf Bourguignon, that is a dish I make often, or a beef stew. There is just something cozy about a good beef stew simmering on the stove and your home spells incredible. Other choices I would recommend would be Beef Stroganoff, lasagna or a chicken stew stew over Amish noodles.

Since it’s a special day, it lends itself to a unique dessert. It doesn’t necessarily have to. be fancy, unless that’s what sounds good to you. When our kids were at home, I’d have Valentine cutout cookies on hand in the cake dome that week. For dessert we’d usually have hot fudge sundaes with mint chocolate chip ice cream, a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, usually a Duncan Hines boxed cake mix with canned chocolate icing and the valentine cookies on the table too. For the month of February, I’d have conversational hearts in the candy dish in the family room.

The whole point is to do something to elevate this mid-winter holiday. About this time, we’re all getting a little tired of winter and a delicious cozy dinner at home, maybe by the fire, or outside if you are in a warmer climate with dimmed lights candles on the table or some pretty flowers may just make you and those you love say…It’s a Great Day ❤️
